Burn XT contains 5 ingredients that are commonly found in weight loss supplements, however, they are typically accompanied by stronger and more effective weight loss ingredients. Although most of this formula is backed by science, not all of the ingredients here can help with weight loss.

Acetyl-L-Carnitine HCI

L-carnitine is a naturally occurring amino acid that has recently found its way into weight loss supplements. Acetyl-L-carnitine is a type of L-carnitine that is the most effective for brain health. Because this is the largest ingredient in this supplement, we would hope that it would be the most effective. Even though it is easily found in weight loss products, clinical research shows that it has no effect on weight loss.

A randomized, double blind, placebo study was conducted to investigate the effects of L-carnitine supplementation on weight loss. 36 overweight women were randomly assigned to two even groups. The first group was given 2,000 mg of L-carnitine and the second a placebo twice a day for 8 weeks. All subjects participated in a 30 minute walk 4 days a week. Researchers found no significant changes in total body mass, fat mass, and lipid utilization between the two groups. In fact, there weren’t any significant differences of any variable. It was concluded that L-carnitine supplementation has no effects on weight loss. (5)

Green Tea Leaf Extract

Green tea leaves originate from China and India. They are high in antioxidants and are most commonly used to make beverages. Green tea leaf extract is taken from the plant and turned into a more potent and compact form. By consuming green tea, the body is better able to support heart health, improve brain health, slightly enhance weight loss, and promote healthy skin.

In a study done to test the effects of green tea supplementation on weight loss, researchers collected 76 participants. Subjects participated in 3 months of supplementation with a green tea (270 mg) and caffeine (150 mg) mixture. In those who had a high caffeine take outside of the supplementation reduced fat mass, weight, and waist circumference. Those who had a low caffeine intake outside of the supplement showed partial improvements. It was concluded that caffeine is an effective weight loss strategy and the green tea and caffeine mixture can show a slight assist. (3)

Capsimax is a patented form of cayenne pepper fruit extract (also known as red chili pepper extract) created by a company called OmniActive Health Technologies. In this formula it is used for its ability to help increase thermogenesis and support lipolysis. But, it can also help reduce motion sickness, relieve menstrual cramps, improve sore throats, and calm toothaches. It contains a compound called capsinoids, which are suspected to be the cause of the benefits from this ingredient. 

A double blind, placebo controlled, randomized experiment was conducted to find the effects of capsinoids on weight loss. A total of 75 healthy volunteers participated in this study. For 12 weeks, subjects were given either a placebo or a capsinoid supplement everyday. When compared to the placebo, those taking the capsinoids supplements showed reduced fat mass. The results of this study suggest that capsinoids supplementation can give potential benefits for those looking to lose weight. (1)

BioPerine (Black Pepper Fruit Extract)

BioPerine is a patented form of black pepper fruit extract created by a company called Sabinsa Corporation. It can be used to enhance the absorption of nutrients and other ingredients in the formula and from the foods you eat. People also use it to help improve memory, boost immune system functions, increase mental skills, and support metabolism.

In order to find the effectiveness of piperine on enhancing bioavailability, researchers conducted an experiment. To test this, human volunteers were fed curcumin, which holds many medicinal properties, but unfortunately is very hard for the body to absorb. The subjects were first given curcumin alone and as expected, the serum levels were either undetectable or very low. When evaluating weight loss supplements we prefer to see more unique ingredients instead of just a few basics and nothing more. Because this is marketed as a weight loss supplement, we would have liked to see a formula that is better at enhancing weight loss.

In our experience the value of this small list of ingredients, in such small amounts, is nowhere near the amount that they are charging.
